Raising Leaders

Our mission statement at the Wesley is to raise up Christian leaders.
Being a part of the leadership team at the Wesley is a huge part of how we actively train Christian leaders.  Bathos is the name.

What is Bathos?

Bathos means depth and it is the name and direction of the new discipleship and spiritual formation group at Wesley. During our Bathos program, our students will have an opportunity to study foundational principles of the Christian faith. For example, this year our emphasis will be on spiritual formation. The first semester, we will focus on practices and habits that lead to a balanced and complete relationship with Jesus Christ. The spring semester will be all about missions and how one applies their complete faith to the world we live in today.

Each year, the Bathos program will focus on a different aspect of the Christian faith. Where as this year is all about spiritual formation, next year may be focused on Scripture and understanding of Scripture. The next year could be all about theology and how to develop what you believe about God and your faith. The basic premise of our Bathos program is that if a freshman comes in and stays consistently with the program for three years, they will have an opportunity to be taught a comprehensive and solid view of the Christian faith from experts in their particular fields of interest.

Since Bathos is intended for students of the Wesley Foundation who want to be in a leadership position, we do hold certain expectations.

Students will be required to:

  • Attend Wesley events
  • Be involved with the Wesley small groups
  • t;Be in a one-on-one discipleship relationship with a staff member at the Welsey
  • Participate and take an active role in one of the defined ministry areas and teams at the Wesley
