There is something seriously wrong in the way we live and the manners in which we find entertainment. Consider what we find funny or entertaining.
- “That’s what she said”
- “That’s not what your mother said last night, Trebek”
- Step Brothers the movie with Will Ferrel
- Super Bad
- 40 yr Old Virgin
More than half the movies we watch and a higher percentage than that of the jokes out of our mouths refer to sexual content. And not just simple sexual content but most often VERY inappropriate, vulgar, crude, UNBIBLICAL connotations of sex. Sex as the world knows it; not as God created it.
So my question from this is derived towards believers, followers of Jesus, we so-called messengers of truth and life; I have to ask you this:
Can we not demand more?
Men:
Can we not demand that we will not watch movies with unnecessary sex scenes in it? Can we not demand that purity is more important than the fear of being “that guy.” I don’t care what people think, even my BEST friends. Yes, I care and want to have true, close relationships with those around me, but if they talk about me because I chose not to hang out with them while watching 300 or The Last Kiss or Forgetting Sarah Marshal, are they my friends? Even if they are, does their opinion matter? We have decided that 6 minutes of completely ungodly, disgusting portrayals of sex and relationships that are JUST PLAIN WRONG, are ok or dismissible because it’s “no big deal” or “just one scene” or my favorite: “we’re all grown ups and it doesn’t really affect us.” I forgot that scripture said “have nothing to do with crude talk and sexual jokes, but only if they affect you.”
We have forgotten that it is OUR JOB to PROTECT THE INNOCENCE of our women AS WELL AS OURSELVES. Instead we have forced them to engage in entirely wrong, unbiblical forms of entertainment that ENDANGER OUR VERY MINDS, HEARTS, and relationships. Good work fellas, the reason women are in such bad shape these days with all their insecurities and identity issues and everything else, is because there are little to NO good men left to take care of them. Good work guys.
Women:
Can you not see that you are the beauty of God? Can you not demand to be treated as such? Can you not demand to be treated better, with more respect, more loyalty, more selflessness, and more protection!!?? (News flash FELLAS, protecting a girl almost never means being able to kick a guy’s ass for saying something about her, near as much as it means protecting her innocence). Ladies, NO MAN or group of friends will EVER be more important, more beautiful, more precious than your innocence and beauty found in being a Godly daughter of The Most High King; I don’t care what ANYONE says. It’s time to demand more from the way you are treated. It’s time you stepped into your identity as a royal daughter, worth more than gold, and it’s time men RESPECTED you as such. Any man that isn’t willing to hold back EVERY BIT of physical gratification or inappropriate conduct in order to respect you and your great worth, IS NOT WORTH IT. Drop him.
Men:
It’s time to take care of them. It’s time to protect them, not with fists but in:
The way we talk around her
The way we talk ABOUT her
The way we date her
The way we kiss her
The way we don’t kiss or touch her
The things we take her to be a part of with us (like movies, parties, etc.)
The way encourage her PERSONAL relationship with Jesus (void of your motives other than to see a daughter of The King love her daddy)
The way we uplift and encourage her.
The way we support her GREAT great strength.
It’s really simple BOYS,
Its time to grow up.
Can we not demand more?
If you think we can’t, or worse that we don’t need to
If you think I’m just on a legalistic tangent
Or if you simply don’t care enough to think twice about this
I invite you to reevaluate yourself
Your motives
The REAL issue or reason behind what you’re thinking right now.
I learned recently that you have NO IDEA what those around you have gone through regarding sexual relationships. And MANY MANY more people than I realized are terribly scarred from their past! SO PLEASE! continue telling your jokes so you can gain some attention at the great expense of those you claim to love! That’s REALLY biblical.
Scripture and Jesus’ lifestyle look nothing like some of our relationships these days. He wouldn’t have gone to movies with unnecessary unbiblical language and situations in it for entertainment sake. He wouldn’t have put His arm around His girlfriend and made her watch the movies we watch, or listen to the conversations we have, just for the sake of comedy
p.s. “but it’s funny” has never been a justification for ANY inappropriate talk. Ephesians 5 COMMANDS us to DO AWAY WITH crude talk and coarse joking.
“Do away with it!”
Not:
“do away with coarse joking that isn’t funny, but have a hell of a time with the comical ones cause that’s ok.”
If “but it’s funny” or “it’s just in good fun” or “it’s just a movie” has come out of your mouth recently,
Please
For your own good in your relationship with Jesus
For the good of those around you
For the good of your romantic relationship or future relationship
Look again,
This is not biblical, it’s not justifiable, and I’m done with it.
Jesus didn’t die so we could make jokes about and watch movies with material that is tearing apart Jesus’ Kingdom on this earth.
If none of this matters to you and you still disagree, you have that right.
But I WILL ask you to hold your inappropriate jokes and movies when I’m around
And when my girlfriend is around.
Otherwise, I’m informing you now that I will leave, not because I don’t love you or don’t want to spend great time with you
Simply because it’s time we chose righteous priorities,
And a clean mind for me and my girlfriend in the name of righteousness does come before time with friends.
Thanks for reading, thanks for understanding.
